ABOUT DIGITAL MALAYSIA
Rapid advances in digital and online technologies have created a new world order that is constantly reinventing our way of life. The internet’s open architecture represents a new digital paradigm that has become central to the successful development of our economy and society.
The increasing prominence of the internet economy and the growing spread of social media are creating new opportunities impacting every aspect across the economic, social, governance, technological and environmental spheres. Today, governments, businesses and societies have to constantly adapt to move seamlessly between the analogue and digital worlds.
Digital Malaysia is the nation's vision to forge ahead in embracing the global digital revolution. It will drive wealth creation and enhance quality-of-life by harnessing and building upon Malaysia's varied ICT initiatives. This will result in a nation that connects and empowers Government, businesses and citizens through a vibrant and demand-focused digital ecosystem.
Digital Malaysia is envisaged to support the nation’s vision, by integrating an Innovative Digital Economy Framework with clear time- and outcome-based Action Plans that will consequently result in:
- The increase in contribution to the Gross National Income (GNI)
- The empowerment of businesses through the pervasive use of ICT
- The elevation of the country’s social well-being
Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), with the support of various Ministries, government agencies and the private sector, has embarked on a journey to develop the details of this initiative.
Based on a framework that details out a Digital Malaysia ecosystem comprising Drivers, Enablers and Dimensions, a five-week Digital Malaysia Lab was organized from 18th July to 19th August 2011, where key Government agencies collaborated with the private sector and citizen groups to develop sets of key Action Plans as its complements. These Actions Plans serve as Entry Point Projects (EPPs) for the Digital Malaysia initiative.
Details of the proposed EPPs shall be unveiled in due course. Please contact MDeC should you need more information about the Digital Malaysia Initiative.
