Senior Vice President and Finance Corporate Controller, AMD

devinder.jpgDevinder Kumar is Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller of AMD. In addition to being AMD's Corporate Controller, he is responsible for Global Accounting and Financial Services, Corporate Accounting, Global Internal Controls, Corporate Financial Planning, Worldwide Customer Claims and Credit Operations, Revenue and Inventory Accounting, Finance Process Reengineering, SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley 404) compliance and worldwide financial policies.  He also leads the Global Real Estate, Security and Facilities team.

He joined AMD in 1984 as a financial analyst. He spent 10 years in Asia as Financial Controller of AMD Penang and Finance Director/Group Controller of the Manufacturing Services Group. He then had several roles including Corporate Accounting and Finance Director, Assistant Corporate Controller/Vice President Finance, and became AMD’s Corporate Controller in 2001 and Treasurer in 2009.

Devinder was promoted to Corporate Vice President & Corporate Controller in 2004 and to Senior Vice President in 2006. He also served as AMD’s Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer between 2007 and 2010.

Devinder has been a strong advocate for the transition of AMD service and knowledge worker jobs to Malaysia.  He was responsible for establishing the Asia Accounting and Financial Services Group in Penang in 2003.  The Asia Accounting and Financial Services group has grown into a new AMD entity, AMD Global Services, headquartered in Malaysia, and is an MSC Malaysia-status company with operations in Penang and Cyberjaya.  

The scope of services has expanded and now includes finance and accounting, credit operations, marketing operations, customer claims operations, distributor and business operations, U.S. taxation, procurement center of excellence, IT and HR services.  The total workforce of AMD Global Services organization is projected to grow to more than 600 employees by the end of 2013.

Devinder partners closely with Dato’ Dr. Mohd Sofi Osman, Corporate Vice President and head of AMD's Manufacturing Operations in Malaysia, to develop opportunities for expanding manufacturing activities in Malaysia. AMD's manufacturing headcount in Malaysia has grown significantly and exceeds more than 1,000.

To recognize Devinder’s longstanding association with and contributions to Malaysia, specifically the state of Penang, Devinder was conferred the ‘Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (D.S.P.N)’ award  by the Governor of Penang, Malaysia in July 2011.  This award carries the title of Dato’.

Devinder has a bachelor’s degree in ecology from the University of Malaya, a master’s degree in biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MBA in finance from the University of California, Los Angeles.
